Hercus manufactured lathes in Adelaide since the 1920s, and by the 1960s had become a major supplier to Australian industry, technical schools and TAFE colleges alike. The 260 model was introduced in 1974 as the successor to Hercuss long-running 9-inch lathe, of which around 15,000 were built, and quickly became the companys mainstay for smaller workshop and training applications. A large number of Hercus lathes from this era spent their working life in education settings, where use was typically light and supervised rather than continuous industrial production a big part of why so many surviving examples are still in solid, usable condition today. This 260 ATM comes fitted with a taper-turning attachment, giving you added versatility for taper work straight out of the box.
